Dresden Station Unit 1 High Pressure Coolant Inject!on
_(HPCI) System, NRC Docket No. 50-10
Dear Mr. Zicmann:
This letter is in response to the 1ctter from Mr. Goller, dated August 5,1974, requesting a progress report every three months starting Hovember 5,1974 This is neport no. 10.
The construction of the HPCI system has not progressed sir.ce the last report because of the contaminated soil problem (sce previous report) and the very cold vcather.
We took ad-vantage of this unfortunate delay to do the design and drafting work needed to increase the cico of the building.
Only th',2ongth was increased in order to minimize the engineering and an. lysis time required to make the chango so as not to further delay the project.
The increase in size will accommodate the larger 'han expected vendor supp2. icd equipment and provido a reasonable amount of roact for operating and maintaining the system.
The projected date for the HPCI system operability is now l
Septemberr 1978.
This corresponds to the dato given in the pre-vious. report plus the three month delay discussed above.
The cost estimate for the HPCI system including engineering and escalation to the projected service dato in now $15,000,000.
Although we havo yet to receive approval of our design report, submitted on October,1975, we aro proce 3 ding with the procuremont of ' equipment.
The status of the vnr.ous ccnpononts of tho HPCI system is given in Tablo No. 1 (attached).

Referemos (a):
K. R. Geller letter to J. S. Abel, dated Augmat 5, 1974
Dear Mr. Davis:
This letter is in response to Reference (a) which requested a 7,copress report every three months starting Novensber 5, 1974.
This is report No. 11.
The cesi+mminated soil discussed in the two previous reports has been reectved allowing the construction of the EPCI building to proceed.
The building emaavatica is m 1=te including the E3CI pump pits, and the fill oonarete (sund mat) has been poured.
Current ocastruction activities include trenching for the suth doet run, putting in reinforcing steel for the floor, and rerouting axisting services (water, sir, fence, road, etc.).
The status of the various components of the HPCI system is given in Table No. 1 (attaahed).
A copy of the latest EPCI project schedule is attached for year inferination.
This schedule is based on information avail-able in February 1977.
The mahadule indicates the systaan will be i
operational on Decamber 31, 1978 We presently are on schedule for most.of the items, but are a month or two M 8ad on some of the more critical itaans.
It is not yet known if these specific d=11ays will have any impact en the project and date.
mecause the currently anticipated project sampletion is appecatinately one year later than granted in our ezemption, we plan to request an extenaien.
The Dresden 1 primary system =h==ta=1 a1===imy project has also-experienced delays.
It is currently expected that the in the fall of 1978 rather inally anticipated, c=
