Dear Mr.'Ziemann:
This letter is in response to the letter from Mr. Goller, dated August 5, 1974, requesting a' progress report every three months' starting November 5,1974.
This is report No. 8.
Although we are. trying to improve the schedule, our best estimate is that the HPCI system addition will'be operational by about the end of March, 1978. This schedule is about the same as that indicated in report No. 7.
_ Several actions were taken to expedite the schedule; however, eeveral situations-developed that delayed the project somewhat. Tne resolution of tech-

l nical and quality assurance questions took longer to resolve than anticipated which l
has delayed the award of the diesel generators.
The longer than anticipated reso-lution of quality assurance program deficiencies delayed the award of the structural work contract. The combined requirements for sphere penetrations for all the Dresden i
1 backfit jobs (HPCI,- Decon, -RPS and containment equipment modifications) neces-l sitates that additional penetrations ~be installed. Although the structural contract l
was awarded, many of the items are on hold awaiting necessary details following the award and-subsequent vendor drawing submittals for the remainder of the equipment.
The need to route many of the cables around the north side of-the plant, as dis-cussed in report No. 7, along with the need for new penetrations, has necessitated changes to the originally planned underground duct run resulting in a hold on the construction of duct and cable runs until the new designs are completed.

posed equipment different than anticipated. We have so far avoided increasing the size of the building in order to avoid the three month schedule delay that would result.-
