Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

Omaha Public Power District's letter to the Commission, dated October 31, 1980, was the District's response to IE Bulletin 79-01B regarding environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment. Attached are revisions that update information provided in our October 31, 1980, letter. Sheet 4-103 has been corrected to indi-cate the location of the pressure transmitters. Sheet 5-3 of Enclosure 5 to the District's letter of October 31, 1980, has been revised to reflect the District's latest position on the Valcor solenoid valves.

Sheets d-36, 6-60, and 6-83 for GE motors have been revised to show the correct temperature specification and qualification of 1090F and 1220F, respectively. A typographical error on Sheet 6-78 has been corrected; Item No. is HCV883B and HCV8848 instead of HCV883A and HCV884A. Sheet 6-123 now lists the test reports that were recently received.

The District has established a file of all documentation supporting environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment and is presently in compliance with the Commission's Order for License Modification dated October 24, 1980, regarding this file. However, it is anticipated that more test results and/or vendor information will be received. The District will provide the Commission updates when such information is received.

Sincerely, j- ,.

Ilowever, as a result of the failures of evaluation has been conducted to determine radia-these solenoids the District expects to replace the Valcor tion exposure and suitability for the subsequent solenoids with a different qualified manufacturer. Due to the environment. All other solenoid valves listed on cost of the test procedure the District does not plan to order this sheet are above the flood level. Valcor test a test procedure. reports have been reviewed & the test results show

  • Changed to ASCO (See sheet 5-6) that these solenoids were tested to a pressure peak of 113 PSIg without leakage. This is well above the pressure these componer.ts would see if submerged and demonstrates that they will withstand submergence.
