SAFETY EVALUATION If, in a postulated fuel cask accident, the cask and its associated holding device are assumed to tip and fall into the SFP, 76 fuel assemblies may be damaged.
Resulting thyroid and whole body doses will be within the exposure guidelines of 10 CFR Part 100, assuming 5 percentile meteorology and con-servative fission product releases, if all fuel assemblies in the SFP area vulnerable to impact of the tipped cask and holding device have previously been removed from the reactor for at least 43 days. To assure that the postulated consequences of the cask tip accident will be within the exposure guidelines of 10 CFR Part 100, the licensee will be required to limit storage in areas of the pool vulnerable to cask tip to fuel with a minimum of 43 days decay.
Radioactive effluent releases from other postulated fuel handling accidents remain unchanged from those pre-sented in the SER of July 1973.
