[m')

Gentlemen:

%J In response to your request for additional information dated July 20, 1977, provided below is our reply to Deviation 7710-1:

The Preventive Maintenance Program with regard to nuclear safety related equipment in the maintenance area has been implemented. Since July 1977, only two scheduled preventive maintenance items in the maintenance area have not been completed.

These items were properly reported as incomplete in accordance with ANO Procedure 1005.02 (Preventive Maintenance Control Procedure).

The requirement to perform the preventive maintenance scheduled for each week is based on the Cognizant Supervisor's evaluation and disposition.

This is supported by Paragraphs 3.2.3, 3.2.4 and 3.2.6 of Procedure 1005.02, which state:

3.2.3 Each Cognizant Supervisor will evaluate the preventive maintenance activities scheduled on the weekly preventive maintenance schedule (Exhibit V) and ensure those he deems necessary are performed during the week scheduled.

He

(

shall ensure that the check lists promulgated weekly with l

this schedule are distributed and the preventive mainten-l ance activities are properly accomplished and documented.

Mr. G. L. Madssn October 14, 1977 1-107-4 s

O-o 3.2.4 Each Cognizant Supervisor shall submit a report of com-pletion of items scheduled on the Preventive Maintenance Schedule to the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator weekly.

3.2.6 Each Cognizant Supervisor shall prepare a weekly report of overdue preventive maintenance. This report shall be in the format of Exhibit VIII and shall list all preventive maintenance activities that were scheduled for the preceding week, but not accomplished. He shall submit this report along with the marked up copy of the Preventive Maintenance Schedule to the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator.

Each nuclear safety related preventive maintenance item which has not been accomplished since July 1977, has been evaluated as not being necessary, or has been rescheduled in accordance with Procedure 1005.02. No further

evaluation of items which have not been accomplished prior to July 1977 j

is required or desired.

It is our opinion that your Notice of Deviation (Report 50-313/77-10; 50-368/,

77-11) Item B, addressed c11 preventive maintenance to be performed at Arkans6 Nuclear One. However, we now find that you are concerned with only nuclear safety related preventive maintenance items. With this agreement, we do not have a manpower problem associated with our nuclear safety related preventive maintenance items.

Very truly yours, Donald A. Rueter Director, Technical 6 Environmental Services DAR:ah j
