175 ft. wind speed indication was lost contrary to Technical Specification 3.3.3.4.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence: '

l Mode 6 refueling. .. l

7. Description of Occurrence: l At 1400 of 18 April 1978 both the digital readout indication and recorder indications 1 for the 175 ft. wind speed indicator were discovered inoperable. An investigation '

revealed that the 175 ft. wind speed sensor bear 1.ig was worn out. The wind speed sensor was renewed and reca11 braced using the Mececrological Monitoring System Calibration Procedure (SP-158) and restored operable within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />.

8. Designation of Apparent Cause:

The cause of this event was due to a worn bearing in the 175 ft. wind speed sensor.

There was no hazard to the health and safety of the plant or general public as the 33 ft. wind speed indicator was operable and no gaseous releases in progress.

10. Corrective Action:

No corrective action necessary as the wind speed sensor for the 175 ft. elevation was renewed.

11. Failure Data:

Second occurrence of loss of wind speed indication bu:: the first occurrence involving the 175 ft. sensor.
