Identification of Occurrence:

1 Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake scraens of Units 1, 2 and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24hr reporting level of Section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

Conditions prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #3 - Three of four water circulation pumps operational.

Description of Occurrence:

During the period 0900 January 19, 1978 to 0900 January 20, 1978 57.69 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2 and 3.

Of the 57.69 kg impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 42.55 kg (74% of total).

Three commercially unimportant species accounted for 41.03 kg (715 of total); silver perch 55%, pinfish 125, batfish 5%.

Two ccamer-cially utilized species, the pink shrimp and the blue crab accounted for 5.38 kg (9% of total).

Impingement of all other commercially utlized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question.

The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.
