Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation
ATTN: Mr. Robert L. Smith
Licensing Engineer
25 Research Drive
Westborough, Massachusetts 01581
Gentlemen:
Subject:
Inspection 50-271/79-17
This refers to your letter dated December 31, 1979, in response to our letter
dated December 5,1979.
As the result of a telephone conversation on January 10, 1980 between Mr. T.
Stetka of this office and Mr. W. Conway of your staff, it is our understanding
that the following corrective and preventative actions will be accomplished.
(1)
Operations personnel shall be re-instructed in the necessity and importance
of adhering to the Technical Specification requirements relative to alter-
nate testing of systems and voluntary entry into a degraded mode of operation.
(2)
This re-instruction will emphasize that the sampling requirement, that is
unique with the Residual Heat Removal Service Water (RHRSW) system, shall
be completed and the alternate system testing begun prior to removing a
componert from service.
(3)
This re-instruction will be completed by January 16, 1980.
If our understanding is incorrect, please contact us promptly.
These actions will be examined during a subsequent inspection.
Your cooperation
with us is appreciated.
Sincerely,
& C 6L<.C.A,k.,Ikh i k
