October 7, 2019 Mr. Michael Gallagher Vice President. License Renewal and Decommissioning Exelon Nuclear 200 Exelon Way Kennett Square. PA 19348

SUBJECT:

SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL OF PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 (EPID NO. L-2018-RNW-0012)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

By letter dated July 10, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML18193A689), Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or staff) an application to renew the Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-44 and DPR-56 for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3 (Peach Bottom).

The NRC staff determined that the application was complete and acceptable for docketing on August 27, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18191B280).

The NRC staff has reviewed the Peach Bottom Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) and has developed the enclosed Safety Evaluation Report with a Confirmatory Item Related to the Subsequent License Renewal of Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3, hereinafter referred to as the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) with a Confirmatory Item.

This SER with a Confirmatory Item reflects the status of the NRC staffs safety review of the SLRA, as supplemented, through August 13, 2019, unless otherwise noted. Issuance of the enclosed SER with a Confirmatory Item is an important milestone for both the applicant and the NRC staff.

The confirmatory item that the NRC staff identified in its safety review must be resolved before the staff can make a final determination on the SLRA. Section 1.6 of the SER with a Confirmatory Item includes an explanation of the information required for its satisfactory resolution.

The next milestone for this project is the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards Subcommittee meeting scheduled for November 5, 2019. The SER is scheduled to be issued in January 2020.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the license renewal project manager, Ms. Bennett Brady, at 301-415-2981 or by e-mail at Bennett.Brady@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA Meena Khanna for/
