3/27/79 Identification of Event On 3/27/79 while performing inservice inspection on Unit 1 of FNP, linear surface indications were found on the 2" ECCS line to Loop 1 cold leg.

Subsecuent investigation revealed additional indications on the 2" ECCS lines to Loop 2 cold leg and Loop 3 hot leg.

With the exception of the above, no additional indications were found on 153 welds examined.

Conditions Prior to Event

The unit was in mode 6 (refueling).

Description of Event

On 3/27/79 while performing inservice inspection on Unit 1 of FNP, linear surface indications were found on the 2" ECCS line to Loop 1 cold leg.

While performing the expanded examination, additional indications were found on the 2" ECCS lines to Loop 2 cold leg and Loop 3 hot leg.

These indications are reportable under the potential applicability of Tech. Spec. section 6.9.1.8(i).

Designation of Apparent Cause Based on an engineering evaluation the subject indications probably were caused during handling, fabrication, installation or manufacture of the piping.

A_na l y s i t. of Event on March 27, 1979, while performing inservice inspection on Unit 1 of FNP, five linear surface indications were found during P. T.

examination on the 2" ECCS line to Loop 1 cold leg.

All but one of the five indications were outside the heat affected zone of a weld.

Subsequent U. T. examination revealed that no indication was detected greater than.030" in depth.

On March 28, 1979, eleven linear surface indications were found during P. T. examination on the 2" ECCS line to Loop 2 cold Icg.

All but one of these indications were outside the heat affected zone of a weld.

Subsequent U. T. examination revealed no discontinuities.

79-015/01T-0 On March 30, 1979, one linear surface indication was found during P. T. examination on the 2" ECCS line to Loop 3 hot leg.

This indication sas inside the heat affected zone of a weld.

Effect on Plant This occurrence had no significant effect on plant operation.

Corrective Action

The design organization has provided two corrective action alternatives i.e. cut out and replace piping or grind out subject inlications.

These alternatives are being reviewed by APCo.

A follow-up report will be issued upon completion af the appropriate corrective action.
