REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING IE BULLETINS79-06A AND 79-06A REVISION 1 We have reviewed your responses to IE Bulletins79-06A and 79-06A Revision 1 for the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit 1 (Beaver Valley 1) which were transmitted by letters dated April 30, May 14 and 17, and July 12, 1979. Our review of your responses has led us to believe that you have a general understanding of our concerns arising fro,m the TMI-2 incident in relation to their implications to the operation of the Beaver Valley 1 plant. Nevertheless, we have discovered some deficiencies in your responses which must be resolved before we issue our safety evaluation for the Beaver Valley 1 plant.
The resolution of these deficiencies is contingent upon receiving complete and acceptable responses to the questions in.
As a result of our continuing review of the TMI-2 incident, we may impose other corrective actions in addition to those in IE Bulletins79-06A and 79-06A Revision 1.
In the interim, if you need any clarification of the enclosed questions, please contact P. D. O'Reilly (301-492-7745), the staff's assigned project manager for Bulletins and Orders involving Westinghouse designed reactors.
Your responses to the enclosed requests should be forwarded to us by September 21, 1979.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AS A RESULT OF STAFF REVIEW OF RESPONSES TO BULLETINS79-06A AND 79-06A REVISION 1 BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-334 The requests below are numbered to correspond to the Bulletin action items.

Your response did not clearly indicate that all safety-related valves had been inspected, to the extent practicable, to verify proper position. Nor was a schedule for performing the position verification for all safety-related valves provided. Please supplement your response to provide this informa tion.

In your response to this item, you rely on prior operability verification within the current Technical Specification surveillance interval.
It is our position that operability should be further verified by at least a visual check of the system status, to the extent practicable, before removing the redundant equipment from service. Please supplement your response with a commitment to revise your maintenance and test procedures to adopt this position.
12.
It is our position that you should develop a procedure for removing hydrogen from the reactor coolant system rather than to wait until an accident has occurred. Provide a schedule for incorporating methods for removal of hydrogen from the reactor coolant systern into your procedures.
