Surry Power Station, Unit #1 Docket No: 50-280 Report No: 78-037/03L-0 Event Date: 11/7/78 Late Review of Procedure Deviation

1. Description of Event

On 11/7/78, while searching in station records for information concerning reactor coolant pump motors, a Procedure Deviation to OP-5.1, Filling and Venting the Reactor Coolant System, dated 1/15/77 was found unreviewed by the Station Nuclear Safety and Operating Committee.

Since the deviation was not reviewed within the prescribed time frame as stated in T.s.. 6.4.E,. this event is reportable per T.S. 6.6.2.b.(3).

Probable Consequence of Event:

Since the deviation involved temporary changes to the procedure but did not change the intent of the original procedure and since the deviation was approved by the Shift Supervisor prior to implementation, there were no consequences from this event. Therefore, the health and safety of the public were not affected.

3.

Cause of Event

The procedure deviation was misrouted to the records vault with the completed procedure without.being reviewed by SNSOC.

4.

Irmnediate Corrective Action:

Upon discovery of the deviation, it was forwarded to SNSOC for review at the 11/8/78 SNSOC meeting.

5.

Scheduled Corrective Action:

None required.

6.

Action Taken to Prevent Recurrence:

Since this was a random event and this is not a. recurring problem, no action is required.

7.

Generic Implications:

Since this is not a recurring problem, there are no generic implications.
