SUBJECT:
SUITABILITY OF RESPONSE RELATED TO NRC BULLETIN 88-11, "PRESSURIZER SURGE LINE THERMAL STRATIFICATION", ITEM 1.b (TAC NOS. 72161/72162)
RE:
SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 By letter dated May 31, 1989, PSE&G forwarded the justification for continued operation (JCO) for Salem 1 and 2, based on the continued integrity of the pressurizer surge line. The letter also referred to a generic bounding analysis (WCAP 12277, Proprietary and WCAP 12278, Non-proprietary) being prepared by the Westinghouse Owners' Group (WOG) to be sent to the NRC by June 15, 1989.
Your letter specifically requested the staff to notify you if the information provided was sufficient to allow continued operation of Salem 1 and 2 while the detailed fatigue analysis is being prepared. Although the staff has not completed its detailed evaluation of the WOG generic bounding analysis, we have reviewed your response and conclude that the information you provided is sufficient to allow continued operation while the detailed fatigue analysis, as requested in Item 1.d of Bulletin 88-11, is being prepared.
