March 13, 2018 Mr. Gary Peters, Director Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Framatome Inc.

3315 Old Forest Road Lynchburg, VA 24501

SUBJECT:

ACCEPTANCE FOR REVIEW OF FRAMATOME INC. TOPICAL REPORT ANP-10346, REVISION 0, "ATWS-I ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY FOR BWRs USING RAMONA5-FA" (EPID: L-2017-TOP-0067)

Dear Mr. Peters By letter dated December 15, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML17355A231), Framatome Inc. (Framatome, formerly AREVA Inc.) submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review Topical Report (TR) ANP-10346P, Revision 0, "ATWS-I [Anticipated Transient without Scram with Instability] Analysis Methodology for BWRs [Boiling Water Reactors] Using RAMONA5-FA." The NRC staff has performed an acceptance review of TR ANP-10346P, Revision 0. We have found that the material presented is sufficient to begin our review. The NRC staff expects to issue its requests for additional information by October 26, 2018, and issue its draft safety evaluation (SE) by April 26, 2019.

This schedule information takes in consideration the NRCs current review priorities and available technical resources and may be subject to change. If modifications to these dates are deemed necessary, we will provide appropriate updates to this information. The NRC staff estimates that the review will require approximately 1300 staff hours including project management and contractor time. The review schedule milestones and estimated review costs were discussed and agreed upon in an email exchange between Framatome Product Licensing Manager, Alan Meginnis, and the NRC staff on February 28, 2018.

Section 170.21 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations requires that TRs are subject to fees based on the full cost of the review. You did not request a fee waiver; therefore, NRC staff hours will be billed accordingly.

If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact Jonathan G. Rowley at (301) 415-4053.

Sincerely,

/RA/
