In a letter dated September 4,
- 1990, Niagara Mohawk provided its response to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's safety evaluation regarding Generic Letter 88-01, "NRC Position on IGSCC in BWR Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping."
Item 3 of our letter provided justification for excluding from the scope of Generic Letter 88-01 the welds in the Reactor Water Cleanup (RWCU) System outboard of the containment isolation valves.
After further consideration, Niagara Mohawk has changed its position and will include in the scope of Generic Letter 88-01 the RWCU System welds outboard of the containment isolation valves.
Niagara Mohawk will inspect a minimum of 10% of the RWCU System welds outboard of the containment isolation valves each refueling outage in accordance with the staff recommendations contained in Generic Letter 88-01.
