FEMA Findings on Offsite Emergency Plans and Preparedness for Palo Verde The enclosed memorandum dated March 15, 1985 from Richard W. Krimm, Assistant Associate Director, Office of Natural and Technological Hazards

Programs, FEMA, forwards the Federal Emergency Management Agency interim findings on the adequacy of the offsite radiological emergency response plans for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.

Based on a review of the State and local plans by the FEMA Region IX Regional Assistance Committee, FEMA finds that overall the State and local plans for Palo Verde are adequate.

Based on the results of the September, 1984 exercise, FEMA reports that offsite emergency preparedness has been demon-strated to be adequate and there is reasonable assurance that appropriate protective measures can be implemented by offsite jurisdictions around the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency.

We request that you continue to coordinate emergency planning activities with offsite authorities to ensure that the FEMA recommendations for improvement are acted upon and an adequate level of emergency preparedness is maintained for Palo Verde.

If you have any questions regarding the FEMA findings and/or recommendations, you should contact Mr. E. Licitra, the Licensing Project Manager.
