Generic Letter No. 85-15 We have reviewed your letter of September 30, 1985 to the Commission in which you addressed, in response to Generic Letter (GL) 85-15, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company compliance with 10 CFR 50.49 regarding environmental qualifica-tion.
We concur with your conclusion that an extension pursuant to GL 85-15 is not necessary for Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2.
As stated in your letter, the boric acid charging flow meter and the radio-activity concentration monitor in the circulating primary coolant are the only two items that are commercially not available as environmentally qualified equipment.
Both items are post-accident monitoring equipment and, in accordance with the guidance of Regulatory Guide 1.97, will be installed when available.
As stated in our Safety Evaluation Report, Supplement 32, we find this acceptable.
At this time we request that you inform us what specific efforts you have undertaken to obtain the above equipment and when you expect that the equipment will be available for installation.
