[External_Sender] Re: Draft Environmental Assessment for the University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor License Renewal Review Date: Wednesday, November 16, 2016 10:13:37 AM Mr. Wertz, We have completed at least a brief review of the EA. Based on that review, we have identified no issues of concern.

I have to ask though, why the brief comment period. I don't understand the urgency.

Mobilizing staff to review a document such as an EA on short notice requires adjusting priorities for staff who are already working under deadlines in many cases. Please help me understand.

Good Morning Mr. Stout. Im checking on your review of the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the renewal of the facility operating license for the University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor. Any comments?

Our requested 7 day review period has ended, but if you need more time, let us know. We would like to issue the final EA as soon as possible to meet our schedule deadline.

Thanks Geoffrey A. Wertz, P.E.

Draft Environmental Assessment for the University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor License Renewal Review Hello Mr. Stout, This email is a follow-up to the voice message I left earlier today.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is nearing completion of its review of the license renewal application (LRA) for the University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor (MURR), located at the University of Missouri-Columbia, in Columbia, Missouri. If approved, the renewed license would authorize the continued operation of the MURR for an additional 20 years. As part of our LRA review, the NRC staff will issue an Environmental Assessment (EA). The development of the EA includes an opportunity for a review of the draft EA by the facilitys state, a copy of which is attached to this email. The EA finds that the proposed action (i.e., renewal of the operating license for 20 years) will not have a significant impact on the quality of the human environment.

Please review the attached draft EA and contact me with any concerns or questions, which we will attempt to resolve in order obtain your acknowledgement that our proposed action is acceptable. My email address and phone number are included below. We request an e-mail response within 7-days, or as soon as possible, in order to maintain our review schedule.

Please note that your email response will be referenced in the final EA (see highlighted section) and a copy of your email response will be made publicly-available in the NRC document management system, in accordance with the NRCs policy for openness.

Since the draft EA is pre-decisional, we request that you do not release it to public. A public version of the EA will be noticed in the Federal Register prior to the issuance of the renewed license.

Finally, for our records, please confirm the accuracy of the information below:
