~arragansett,RJ 02882-1165 Telephone # 401-874-2600 April 21, 2016 Docket No. 50-193 License No. R-95 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555-0001
Subject:
Request for Change to License for the Rhode Island Atomic Energy Commission Mr. Boyle, This letter is to request that the license for the Rhode Island Atomic Energy Commission be changed during our license renewal process to indicate that we are a facility of low strategic significance in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 73.67, "Licensee fixed site and in-transit requirements for the physical protection of special nuclear material of moderate and low strategic significance."
During the license renewal review of our Physical Security Plan, it came to our attention that our license was not amended to reflect the change in amount of special nuclear material allowed at the site when the facility converted from highly-enriched fuel to low-enriched fuel. We are requesting that Section 2 Paragraph B of our license be amended, during our license renewal, to indicate that the facility is licensed to receive, possess and use at anyone time less than 10.0 kilograms of uranium-235, enriched to less than 20 0!c>, as fuel for operation of the reactor.
This request will also be reflected in our response to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Request for Information dated March 29, 2016.
If there are any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me at (401) 874-2600.
Sincerely, Cameron Goodwin, PhD, Director Rhode Island Nuclear Science Center
