Draft Request For Additional Information Supporting SHINE Preliminary Safety Analysis Report Date: Thursday, August 27, 2015 12:30:00 PM Attachments: SHINE Draft Benchmark Request for Additional Information.pdf

Jim, By letter dated June 19, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15183A290), SHINE Medical Technologies, Inc. (SHINE) responded, in part, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs March 25, 2015, request for additional information (RAI) (ADAMS Accession No. ML15055A116) to complete the review of SHINEs preliminary safety analysis report supporting a construction permit application.

In the course of reviewing SHINEs RAI responses, the NRC staff has determined that SHINEs response to RAI 6b.3-26 is insufficient and additional information is required to complete the review of SHINEs preliminary safety analysis report in order to prepare a safety evaluation report. Therefore, the NRC has prepared the attached draft RAI in order for SHINE to ensure that the request is clear and understandable. SHINE should contact Steven Lynch with any questions regarding this draft request as soon as possible to arrange a time to discuss the RAI with the appropriate NRC technical staff.

The NRC staff asks that SHINE also review this draft RAI to ensure that proprietary information has not inadvertently been included. Should any proprietary information be identified, contact Steven Lynch within the next ten days. If SHINE does not identify proprietary information within the next ten days, this draft RAI will be made publicly available.

This draft RAI supplements the NRCs previous RAIs related to SHINEs construction permit application dated September 11, 2013, September 19, 2014, January 6, 2015 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML13231A041, ML14195A159, ML15005A407, respectively),

March 25, 2015, and April 15, 2015 (ADAMS Accession No. ML15099A607).

In order to support the efficient review of SHINEs construction permit application submitted application, SHINE should contact Steven Lynch to discuss an appropriate response time for this request for additional information.
