STEAM GENERATOR OVERFILL PROTECTION SYSTEM - SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT NOS. 2 AND 3 (TAC NOS. 74994 AND 74995)
Your letter dated October 22, 1990 provided a commitment by Southern California Edison Company to install a steam generator overfill protection system at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit Nos. 2 and 3. You stated that you are considering automatic closure of the feedwater isolation valves for this system rather than tripping the main feedwater pumps. This would maintain feedwater flow to the unaffected steam generator thereby continuing a means of decay heat removal. Moreover, you stated that you intend to install this system in the Plant Protection System, which should reduce the potential for inadvertent trips of the main feedwater pumps.
Your schedule to install the steam generator overfill protection system during Unit 3's Cycle 6 and Unit 2's Cycle 7 refueling outages is acceptable. Please ensure that your next Integrated Implementation Schedule reflects this commitment.
