Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commissioners:
I am a U.S. citizen who was born in Japan. My family lives near Tokyo. It was a frightening 12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br /> when I could not get through to them on the day of the earthquake and tsunami 2 years ago.
Through my educational volunteer work I do, I became friends with some Hibakusha (survivors of atomic bombings) from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They are in their 80s now, and the emotional impact that the nuclear crisis caused them was significant. This is singularly, the most dangerous element on this planet that we live with - nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants. There is no solution for the damages that have already occurred to land and people, but we can stop from going further. Please consider permanently closing down Indian Point.
It is near my home in Manhattan - which means millions of people will be affected if anything goes wrong. What can possibly make it worthwhile to take this risk?
