Subject:

Indian Point relicensing NY City and the Metro area are indispensable to the economies of NY, NJ and CT and crucial to the United States. There are many forces intent on harming America. We should do all we can to remove potential disasters to our region and our country, deliberate or accidental, as could occur with continued operations at Indian Point.

It is ironic that the NY City police Department is doing everything it can to prevent a radioactive dirty bomb detonation in the city by terrorists while a few miles north there exists a potential radioactive "dirty bomb" which, if ignited, would dwarf anything terrorists could do. And, that it would be the NRC who would make it possible by extending the operation of Indian Point magnifies the irony.

An even greater irony is revealed by contrasting our intense concern to achieve a clean, healthy environment, with simultaneously extending the life of this old nuclear plant while ignoring that portions of Japan will remain uninhabitable indefinitely because they never thought the Fukushima nuclear facility could fail catastrophically.

There is more than enough electric generation capacity today to absorb the closure of Indian Point. No one is interested in developing a power plant in our region as long as Indian Point remains open. Announcing the closure of Indian Point would make it economically feasible for someone to build a conventional power plant here.

Indian Point has no strategic value; it's just another power generation plant. We need to do all we can to protect our region and our country and closing Indian Point is an important step in that direction.
