Docket, Hearing From: Patricia Henighan [phenighan@yahoo.com]

Subject:

letter in support of denying Indian Point Power Plant renewnal license 22 East Avenue Walden, NY 12586 September 15, 2012 Office of Secretary, Rulemakings and Adjudications Staff, US NRC Washington, DC 20555 I am writing to urge your Commission to deny Entergy's application for a 20 year extension license for the two operating nuclear reactions at Indian Point Energy Facility in Buchanan, NY.

There are many factors that make this renewal a dangerous and irresponsible decision. Due to its location in such a densely populated area, any "plan of evacuation" is a joke and totally impossible. Moreover, there is a history of explosions, pipe ruptures and repeated siren failures. The spent fuel assemblies are densely packed in over-crowded fuel pools in metal containers that leak radioactivity into the Hudson River. Since the Yucca Mountain storage facility has been rejected, that means that there would be no storage facility for the additional spent fuel accumulated as well which could be over 1,000 tons during a 20 year period.

Alternative energy sources are available and can be obtained if there is a political will to do this. We must not allow another 20 years chained to this dinosaur which will end up destroying our beautiful Hudson Valley either in one catastrophe or slowly through leaks and contamination.

Please say NO to relicensing Indian Point's two reactors.

Sincerely, Patricia Henighan DOCKETED USNRC OFFICE OF SECRETARY RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF 1s-0
