Docket, Hearing From: Tim Takaro [ttakaro@sfu.ca]

Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2012 1:30 PM To: Docket, Hearing; Siarnacki, Anne Cc: Lynn Ringenberg; Catherine Thomasson

Subject:

relicensing Indian Point To the Commission:

As a public health scientist and practicing physician I appreciate the opportunity to express my opposition to relicensing of the Indian Point nuclear plant. The risk to human health in the event of an accident is just too great for this technology in this location. We have seen many examples in recent history where our best technology fails disasterously despite 'failsafe' and redundant safeguards. It is impossible to justify use of this outdated nuclear technology so close to a major population center. Even if there is no REAL disaster, a false alarm and unjustified evacuation would be extremely dangerous. Don't be lulled into complacency by unsupportable claims of technological much less behavioral safeguards. Do the right thing and close this dangerous time-bomb.

Thank you for your consideration Tim K. Takaro, MD, MPH, MS.
