NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs, Region II 245 Peachtree Center Ave., NE, Suite 1200 Atlanta, GA 30303-1257 Site: www.nrc.gov Blog: http://public-blog.nrc-gateway.gov No: II-11-050 August 24, 2011 CONTACT: Roger Hannah (404) 997-4417 E-mail: OPA2.Resource@nrc.gov Joey Ledford (404) 997-4416 NRC NAMES NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT NORTH ANNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Gregory Kolcum as the senior resident inspector for Dominions North Anna nuclear power plant, located near Louisa, Va., about 40 miles northwest of Richmond. Kolcum joins resident inspector Rodney Clagg at the North Anna site.

Kolcum joined the NRC in 2007 as a reactor engineer in the NRCs Region III office in Lisle, Ill. Before being named the senior resident inspector at North Anna, Kolcum was the resident inspector at the Brunswick nuclear power plant near Southport, N.C.

Prior to joining the NRC, Kolcum served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear-trained surface warfare officer and also worked in the commercial and defense electronics industry.

Kolcum holds a masters degree in electrical engineering and engineering management from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Greg Kolcum has the experience and dedication to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment by helping to ensure the safe operation of the North Anna plant, said NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.

The North Anna resident inspectors can be reached at 540-894-5421.
