SUBJECT:

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY - FOLLOW-UP ON REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AGN-201M REACTOR DATED OCTOBER 9, 2009 (TAC NO. ME1588)

Dear Dr. Juzaitis:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sent a Request for Additional Information (RAI) letter to Texas A&M University on October 9, 2009. Responses to the RAIs are required for the facility license renewal review for the Texas A&M University AGN-201M reactor. On November 9, 2009, you responded with a letter requesting an extension because you wanted to update and supplement your license renewal application documents. You indicated in that letter your goal to have the responses to the RAI completed by February 2010.

We understand that during the time since your letter you have hired a dedicated Reactor Supervisor for the AGN-210M reactor and have focused your attention on restarting your reactor after an extended shutdown period to make improvements to your reactor and your facility.

You successfully restarted your AGN-201M reactor on June 10, 2010. With that accomplished, we request you focus your attention on responding to the RAI letter so that we can continue processing and reviewing your license renewal application.

My Renewal Project Manager has been in contact with your Reactor Supervisor and we understand you are making progress towards providing the information requested in the RAI letter. Please provide a date or dates by which you expect to submit the information detailed in the RAI letter within 15 days of the date of this letter.

If you or your staff has any questions regarding the reactor license renewal, please contact Walter Meyer at (301) 415-0897, or email at Walter.Meyer@nrc.gov. Mr. Meyer has recently transitioned into the role of Renewal Project Manager for your facility.

Sincerely,

/LTran for RA/
