Dear Mr. Pacilio:

By letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated December 30, 2009 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML093650139), Exelon Generation Company, LLC submitted a request for NRC staff review and approval of Inservice Inspection Program Relief Request 13R-01, 13R-02, 13R-03, 13R-04, and 13R-05, for the Clinton Power Station, Unit No.1.

The NRC staff is reviewing your submittal and has determined that additional information is required to complete the review. The specific information requested is addressed in the enclosure to this letter. During a discussion with your staff on June 7, 2010, it was agreed that you would provide a response within 30 days from the date of this letter.

The NRC staff considers that timely responses to requests for additional information help ensure sufficient time is available for staff review and contribute toward the NRC's goal of efficient and effective use of staff resources. If circumstances result in the need to revise the requested response date, please contact me at (301) 415-1115.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING RELIEF REQUESTS 13R-01 THROUGH 13R-05 CLINTON POWER STATION (CPS), UNIT NO.1 EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC DOCKET NO. 50-461 By letter dated December 30, 2009 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML093650139), Exelon Generation Company, LLC (EGC) submitted for staff review and approval Inservice Inspection (lSI) Program Relief Request 13R-01, which requests an alternative risk-informed inservice inspection (RI-ISI) selection and examination criteria for Category B-F, B-J, C-F-1 and C-F-2 pressure retaining piping welds for Clinton Power Station (CPS), Unit NO.1. To complete its review, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff requests the following additional information.

13R-01

1. Do the following CPS augmented inspection programs remain unaffected by the RI-ISI program for the third 10-year inservice inspection interval?

Service Water Integrity Program (Generic Letter 89-13)

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) (Generic Letter 89-08)

High-Energy Line Breaks (USNRC Branch Technical Position MEB 3-1)

2. Are the inspection locations in the RI-ISI program that have been developed for the third 10-year interval the same locations as those in the program approved in the NRC staffs April 8, 2002, safety evaluation? If not, please summarize the changes to the program and what caused those changes.
3. If there are changes in the inspection locations for the CPS third 1 O-year interval RI-IS I program, please provide information for the third interval program regarding:

examinations/system/components/degradation mechanisms/class, etc. similar to that provided in Tables 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the original submittal of the RI-ISI program for the CPS second 10-year lSI interval dated October 15, 2001.

4. On page 2 of Enclosure 1 to Attachment 1 to the application, a "current industry peer review of the Clinton PRA" is identified as scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2009. State whether the results of this industry peer review are available. If the results are available, identify any new findings that are not already listed in liTable 1: Impact of Open Significant PRA Peer Review Findings for the Clinton PRA ModeL" Provide an impact assessment of any new findings.

ENCLOSURE

-2 Also, by letter dated December 30, 2009, EGC submitted for staff review and approval lSI Program Relief Request 13R-05, which requests relief from the requirement to perform surface examinations of Category C-G pump casing welds required by American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Table IWC-2500-1, Category C-G Item C6.10 for CPS. To complete its review, the NRC staff requests the following additional information.

1. Please provide component drawings of the Class 2 High Pressure Core Spray, Low Pressure Core Spray, and Residual Heat Removal Pumps which identify the pump casing welds subject to the surface examination requirement of Table IWC-2500-1, Category C-G.
2. Please identify the start date and currently scheduled end date for the third 10-year lSI interval at CPS.
