May 10, 2010 Mr. Gordon P. Arent, Manager New Generation Licensing Nuclear Generation Development and Construction Tennessee Valley Authority P. O. Box 2000, EQB 1B-WBN Spring City, TN 37381

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR PART 70 LICENSE APPLICATION FOR WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 (TAC NO L32918)

Dear Mr. Arent:

By letter dated November 12, 2009, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an application, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), for a Special Nuclear Materials License for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2 under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR),

Part 70. While preparing the safety evaluation report to support the evaluation of this license application, the NRC staff reviewed the submitted application materials and identified several topics requiring clarification. Many of these topics were discussed during a conference call on May 5, 2010. Enclosed is a document containing the NRC staffs request for additional information (RAI) regarding the topics that were either not addressed or insufficiently addressed in the license application. Your full and complete responses to the RAIs are necessary for the staff to complete its safety review. In order to meet our schedule, the additional information specified in the enclosure should be provided within 30 days from the date you receive this letter.

If you believe that TVA will need more than 30 days to respond to the RAIs, please inform us in writing so the NRC staff can assess the impact on the project schedule.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs Agency-wide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible through the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach me by telephone at (301)-492-3111 or via e-mail to Rafael.Rodriguez@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
