TMI emRpr UL 2,209 Novmbr Da 2 o T R 8 What looks good and what needs to be improved RB CONTAMINATION ISSUE Ensure you have accurately communicated information on the RB contamination issue that occurred on 11/21 to your employees.
INDUSTRIAL SAFETY Focus on Safety - Although a lot of attention has been diverted to the RB contamination issue we cannot drop our guard on safety. It's critical now more than ever to maintain safety as our number one priority amidst this issue and the upcoming holiday and hunting season distractions.
Situational Awareness - We have seen several events stemming from awareness of surroundings from PCEs to more serious potential injuries from Lifting and Rigging events. Remember, our common goal is to make sure no one leaves work in a different state than the one that they came to work in. Just as importantly your family is counting on you to work in safe manner.
Situational Awareness is the awareness of what is happening now and what is expected to happen in the future. Always be looking ahead. Remember these three basic situational awareness questions to be asking yourself and your co-workers!
- 1. Assess - What are the risks associated with the work/jobsite?
- 2. Understand - What are the potential impacts of those risks?
- 3. Action - What actions are we going to take NOW to prevent an event?
RADIATION PROTECTION ALARA - A worker was observed donning a safety harness inside of the D-ring, which is posted P. as a High Radiation Area (HRA) instead of donning the harness outside the D-rings where dose is much lower. Feedback was provided to the worker to use ALARA practices, including using low dose areas when possible. Reminder for good ALARA practices:
> KNOW the radiological conditions in your work area and the low dose waiting areas.
> COMPLY with the RWP, work order, and pre-job briefing requirements and established postings in the RCA.
> Wear the correct PCs and don fall protection prior to entering the D-ring HRA boundary .
