Dear Sir or Madam:
The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued NRC Generic Letter (GL) 2008-01 (Reference 1) requesting each licensee to perform an evaluation. The NRC, in GL 2008-01, requested each licensee to submit a written response in accordance with 10 CFR 50.54(f) within 9 months of the date of the GL to provide the following information:
(a)
A description of the results of evaluations that were performed pursuant to the requested actions of the GL; (b) a description of all corrective actions that the licensee determined were necessary; and (c) a statement regarding which corrective actions were completed, the schedule for completing the remaining corrective actions, and the basis for that schedule.
G080034
GNRO-2008/00034 Page 2 Additionally, the GL stated that if a licensee cannot meet the requested response date, the licensee "shall provide a response within 3 months of the date of the GL." In the 3-month response, the licensee is requested to describe the alternative course of action that it proposes to take, including the basis for the acceptability of the proposed alternative course of action.
On April 10, 2008, the Grand Gulf Acting-Licensing Manager in a conversation with Mr. Jared Wermiel, NRC Deputy Director, Division of Safety Systems verbally requested and was granted an extension for the 3 month response to May 8, 2008. The basis for the request is so that Grand Gulf can accurately assess the scope of work required to complete the response to the GL. In addition, Grand Gulf will be in a better position to determine the scope of the work needed in the next scheduled refueling outage.
This letter contains no commitments.
Should you have any questions regarding this submittal, please contact the Acting Licensing Manager, Michael J. Larson at (601) 437-6685.
