SUMMARY

A specific commitment of the renewed operating licenses for Surry Power Station Units 1 and 2 is to provide for NRC review and approval a summary of the inspection plan for the pressurizer surge line weld at the connection of the surge line to the Reactor Coolant System hot-leg piping. (Reference UFSAR Section 18.3.2.4 and Table 18-1, Item 24). Dominion provides herein the inspection plan summary for the pressurizer surge line weld to fulfill this commitment. Dominion will revise the Surry Augmented Inservice lnspection Plan to require inspection of the pressurizer surge line weld at the RCS hot-leg pipe connection during the period of extended operation. Specifically, baseline volumetric and surface examinations of the weld will be required in the fourth inservice inspection (ISI) interval prior to entry into the period of extended operation.

The examinations will also be required in the period of extended operation at a frequency of once per inspection period thereafter (i.e., once every 40 months during each of the fifth and sixth IS1 intervals.)

The inspections will be performed in accordance with the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Rules for Inservice lnspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components.

These inspections typically include an ultrasonic examination to meet the volumetric examination requirement and a liquid penetrant examination to meet the surface examination requirement.
