Dear Mr. Mamish:

This is the State of Delaware's request to obtain liquid potassium iodide (KI) for use by children, under the age of 10 years to protect the thyroid gland from an uptake of radioactive iodine. The state has determined that it will stockpile the liquid KI for children as a supplemental protective action for the emergency planning zone for the Salem-Hope Creek Generating Stations. The following information supports Delaware's request, as indicated in the NRC's correspondence with regard to liquid KI, Total Populations with projected growth 16.000 Per Census 2000 Summary File Population (ages 10 - and under) 12,954 Requesting 16,000 Delaware
