SUMMARY
OF MAY 4, 2005, MEETING WITH EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC, ON EXELON'S NEW STEAM DRYER DESIGN, ANALYSES, AND PLANS FOR STARTUP TESTING AT QUAD CITIES (TAC NOS. MC4397 AND MC4398)
On May 4, 2005, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the resolution of extended power uprate (EPU) flow-induced vibrations at the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station (QCNPS), planned replacement of the steam dryers, startup test plan for new steam dryers, and plans to return the Quad Cities units to EPU power. The attendees included those on the meeting sign-in sheet provided as . In addition, S. Reynolds attended by telephone from NRC, Region III.
The licensee presented information on (1) corrective actions for flow-induced vibrations for components other than steam dryers; (2) new steam dryers, including the design strategy, the design, loading, and stress analysis; (3) Unit 2 steam dryer instrumentation and startup test plan; (4) plans for returning QCNPS to EPU power; and (5) proposed revisions to regulatory commitments.

NRC noted that several tasks remained to be completed before installation of the replacement steam dryers. It was agreed to hold additional discussions on the proposed revisions to Exelon's regulatory commitments. It was also agreed to have additional communications before, during, and following startup testing. NRC thanked Exelon for updating us on their work. No decisions were made.
