SUBJECT:
QUAD CITIES AND DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING ALTERNATIVE SOURCE TERM AMENDMENT REQUEST (TAC NOS. MB6530, MB6531, MB6532, AND MB6533)
Dear Mr. Crane:
By letter dated October 10, 2002, Exelon Generation Company (Exelon) submitted an amendment request to apply an alternative source term (AST) at Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station (Quad Cities), Units 1 and 2, and Dresden Nuclear Power Station (Dresden), Units 2 and 3. The NRC staffs continuing review of the AST amendment request has identified the need for the following additional information related to releases from a postulated main steamline break (MSLB) accident:
Provide the calculation or calculations associated with the expansion of the released reactor coolant and steam associated with a MSLB accident and the modeling of the resultant hemisphere (plume) past the Quad Cities and Dresden control room intakes. Identify the pressure and temperature conditions of the steam at the time of the assumed break.
This request for additional information (RAI) was mailed electronically to your staff on February 16, 2005. Please respond to this RAI by March 18, 2005. Please identify if you feel that this information is not needed for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to make a regulatory finding on your AST amendment request or if this information is already available to the NRC staff. Please respond to this request within 14 days of receipt of this letter.
Please contact me at 301-415-2863 if your staff has any questions about this RAI.
Sincerely,
/RA/
