Circulating Water Evaluation for Waterford EPU
- Tom, In response to Angelo's question, we did not address the Circ Water System from a system performance point of view due to the guidance in the review standard RS-001. Review of the Circ Water System was required only with respect to changes in flooding analyses due to increased Circ Water System fluid volumes or installation of larger capacity pumps or piping required by the EPU. We are making no changes to the Circ Water System for EPU. At the risk of overkill, here is some information extracted from RS-001.
Matrix 5 says the Circ Water System review is applicable to, "EPUs that result in increases in fluid volumes associated with the circulating water system or in installation of larger capacity pumps or piping systems."
Section 2.5.1.1.3 of the PWR Safety Evaluation Template says, "The NRC staff's review of the CWS focuses on changes in flooding analyses that are necessary due to increases in fluid volumes or installation of larger capacity pumps or piping required to accommodate the proposed EPU."
We do mention the Circ Water System in the environmental section of the PUR (principally in Sections 5.2.2 and 5.2.3) with respect to discharge impacts on the environment, but that's probably not an area within Angelo's review interests as a BOP reviewer.
