[Please provide the] construction dates of the lakeside summer cottages on the western end of the property.

We do not have any specifications regarding the year in which these "Gates Grove Cottages" were built, although we estimate that they were constructed in the early 1900s. RG&E does not own the cottages - we own and lease the land, and have year-to-year leases with the owners of the cottages.

Since the NRC's site visit here in November, the majority of these cottages have been demolished due to structural deficiencies and detioriation. At this point, only three of the cottages remain.

A brief summary of the history of the Manor House, including its date of construction In the early 1900s, the land upon which the Manor House (and Ginna Station) is located belonged to Kevin Field and Evelyn (Ellwanger) Field, of gardener/nurserymen fame in the city of Rochester. The site was designed with a variety of trees and plants, including a sunken garden developed below ground level to avoid the impact of cold winds off Lake Ontario.

First built as a cottage in the early 1900s by the Field family, it was enlarged over the years as electricity and gas became available. The Field estate with the Manor House, a farm house, garage, and barns had 1700 feet of lakefront.

When the Manor House was expanded to be categorized a mansion, around 1920, it had 1774 square feet on the first floor and 2060 square feet on the second floor, five bathrooms, 4 fireplaces, separate quarters for servants and guests, and large formal rooms on the first floor.

After Ginna Station was built, the Manor House was used for RG&E Board meetings and for receiving AEC officials and other guests. Shortly after power operation began, the Manor House was no longer used and fell into disrepair.

However, repair and renovation work began in the early 1990s, and the Manor House was restored into excellent condition. It is now used for meetings, wellness activities, employee gatherings, and for the Wayne Central High School "Eagle Ventures" program, an alternative special education program.

Information regarding treatment and disposal of sanitary waste, including typical daily volume, if available, and disposal facility (e.g., name of municipal waste treatment plant receiving waste stream). Summarized annual data regarding typical chemical waste generation (types and quantities). Information regarding any on-site waste treatment and off-site treatment/disposal RESPONSE: There are approximately 7500 gallons of wastewater for Ginna Station treated daily by the Town of Ontario Water Utilities Department. Ginna Station does not have a "Sewer Use Permit" and does not process or discharge waste onsite.

Chemical waste is processed onsite by a demineralization system which processes chemical radioactive waste collected from equipment and floor drains, and chemical lab and hot shower drains. This system uses mixed media filtration and anion, cation, and mixed-bed resin to process water from the waste holdup tank.

The system consists of five to six resin vessels, a booster pump, mechanical filtration, dewatering pump, and process control unit. After processing, waste water is collected in monitor tanks. If the processed water is unacceptable for release because of radioactivity, it is recycled through the demineralization system or recycled to the reactor makeup water tank. When chemistry and activity release parameters are met, the waste water is released from the monitor tank into the circulating water discharge canal. When the resin media is spent, it is sluiced to a shipping container for disposal.

The types and quantities of typical chemical waste discharges to the environment are regulated by our SPDES permit. Estimate of current chemical usage with overboard steam generator blowdowns and condensate polishing system full bypass are:

boric acid (H3BO3) 8700 lb/year ethanolamine (100%)

740 hydrazine (35%)

2000 ammonium hydroxide (30%)

19,000 sulfuric acid (93%)

70,000 sodium hydroxide (50%)

85,000 sodium hypochlorite (12-15%)

110,000
