We are reviewing your application of 3/27/02 and your RAI response of 10/7/02. Our reviewer George Thomas has these 2 questions (below). Please call me to set up a conference call.
This e-mail does not convey a formal NRC staff position, nor does it formally request for additional. We will discuss disposition of following 2 questionsduring the conference call.
(1) Core spray operation is critical for long-term post-LOCA operation especially for a non-jet-pump plant like NMP1. The importance of core spray is discussed in the GE postion paper DRF-E22-00135-01, Rev.0, " Long Term Post -LOCA Adequate Core Cooling Requirements." This white paper was widely circulated in the industry. There is a potential for complete loss of core spray during the AOT of 14 days.
(2) What is the make-up capacity of the Emergency Condenser. We want to confirm that there is a reliable and sufficient supply of water for the isolation condenser operation.
