September 18, 2002 Mr. Otto L. Maynard President and Chief Executive Officer Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation Post Office Box 411 Burlington, KS 66839
SUBJECT:
WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 - REPLY TO RESPONSE TO ORDER FOR INTERIM SAFEGUARDS AND SECURITY COMPENSATORY MEASURES (TAC NO. MB4197)
Dear Mr. Maynard:
On February 25, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued an Order modifying the operating license for the Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit 1 (WCGS) to require compliance with the specified interim safeguards and security compensatory measures.
The NRCs letter dated May 28, 2002, addressed your two earlier responses dated March 14, 2002 (WM 02-0012 and WM 02-0015), to the Order and granted, in response to your request, an extension of time until June 20, 2002, for your submission of the required responses to interim compensatory measures (ICMs) B.2.a(1), B.2.a(2), and B.2.b.
The NRC staff has reviewed your responses to ICMs B.2.a(1), B.2.a(2), and B.2.b, which were submitted in your letter dated June 14, 2002 (WM 02-0023), and finds that you have satisfied the current reporting requirements of the Order.
In your letter of August 30, 2002 (WM 02-0031), you reported that WCGS is in full compliance with the Order. The NRC will determine the effectiveness of your implementation of the ICMs through on-site inspections.
This closes out the staffs work for TAC No. MB4197. If you have any other questions on these issues, contact Jack Donohew, Project Manager for WCGS, at 301-415-1307.
Sincerely,
/RA/
