SUBJECT:

Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-440, License No. NPF-58 Readiness for NRC Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002. "Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or Any Three White Inputs in a Stratecqic Performance Area" In the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Annual Assessment Letter for Perry Nuclear Power Plant (Report 05000440/2011007, ADAMS Accession No. ML12065A157), dated March 5, 2012, the NRC staff requested that FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) advise the staff, in writing, when FENOC is ready for the supplemental inspection at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) using NRC Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002, "Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or Any Three White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area." In letter L-12-176, dated April 30, 2012, PNPP informed the NRC that FENOC was ready for the IP 95002 inspection.

In letter L-12-252, dated June 19, 2012, PNPP documented a request to postpone the scheduled IP 95002 inspection to provide additional time to conduct a review of recent events to assure that the plant was adequately prepared for the NRC's supplemental inspection. PNPP stated that the NRC will be advised in writing when this review is complete and FENOC is ready for the inspection.

The causal analysis of two recent events that lead to reporting Occupational Exposure Control Effectiveness performance indicator occurrences has been completed. The review included an assessment of the corrective actions that were developed to address the root and contributing causes of the previously identified IP 95002 performance issues. Based on completion of these activities, this letter is informing the NRC staff that FENOC is ready for the IP 95002 inspection at the PNPP site.
