SPENT FUEL POOL COOLING GENERIC REVIEW (TAC NO. H88094)
Gentlemen:
This letter is to. inform you of the status of the staff's
"Task Action Plan for Spent Fuel Storage Pool Safety."
The staff has completed a generic review of spent fuel storage pools for operating reactors.
The staff's report is provided as an enclosure for your information although it was provided previously to you without cover.
Also enclosed is a copy of Inspection Reports 50-387/94-12 and 50-388/94-13 which addresses certain issues raised in your report filed pursuant to
CFR Part
on November 27, 1992, and in other correspondence.
As noted in the report, the staff plans to conduct safety-enhancement, plant-specific backfit analyses for a number of operating reactors, The staff will keep you informed about-the status of these analyses.
As you are already aware, the NRC's Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operating Data is conducting a review of loss of spent fuel pool cooling issues including a review of risk studies.
I will ensure that you receive a
copy of the final report from this study, which is expected prior to the end of 1996.
