NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-280/98-07. 50~281/98-07, NOTICE OF VIOLATION. AND EXERCISE OF ENFORCEMENT DISCRETION
Dear Mr. O'Hanlon:
On September 5. 1998. the NRC completed an inspection at your Surry Units 1 and 2 reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
During the six-week period covered by this inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Surry facilities was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations. sound maintenance practices. and careful radiological work controls.
During this inspection period, inspectors from the Region II office followed up on the findings of the Surry Plant Design Inspection (NRC Inspection Report Nos. 50-280/98-201 and 50-281/98-201) of February and March 1998. A violation was identified involving corrective action.
For this violation. the NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation. the corrective actions taken* and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately addressed on the docket in your letter dated July 9. 1998. wherein you responded to the findings of the design inspection team.
Therefore. you are not required to respond to this letter unless the
. description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or your position.
In that case. or if you choose to provide additional information. you should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice of Violation.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice." a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
