Extension for Technical Specification (TS) 3.8.1, "AC Sources - Operating," dated May 14, 2013. ADAMS Accession Number ML13141A405 Ladies and Gentlemen:

On June 19, 2012 (i.e., Reference 1), Duke Energy Progress, Inc., requested a revision to the Technical Specifications (TS) for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Unit Nos. 1 and 2.

The proposed revision extends the Completion Time (CT) of TS 3.8.1, Required Action D.4 for an inoperable diesel generator (DG) from 7 days to 14 days. A commensurate change was also proposed to extend the maximum Completion Time of TS 3.8.1, Required Actions C.3 and D.4.

In support of the proposed amendments, Duke Energy is installing a supplemental diesel generator (SUPP-DG). In a letter dated May 14, 2013 (i.e., Reference 2), Duke Energy requested that the implementation schedule for the proposed amendments be within 90 days of the supplemental diesel generator being available.

Based on discussions with the NRC, Duke Energy requests that implementation of the proposed amendments be prior to startup from the 2014 Unit 1 refueling outage (i.e., B120R1).
