EVENT DESCRIPTION
On August 14, 2003, at approximately 1607 hours0.0186 days
0.446 hours
0.00266 weeks
6.114635e-4 months
EDT, with the plant operating at 100% power, an electrical power grid disturbance occurred, resulting in a momentary lowering of voltage on both 2400 volt safety related buses [BU;EB] 1C and 1D. The reduced voltage on the 2400 volt buses caused both emergency diesel generators (DG;EK] to start. However, the 2400 volt safety related buses remained energized from offsite power throughout the event. Local grid conditions stabilized within approximately five minutes. The diesel generators were secured at 1650 hours0.0191 days
0.458 hours
0.00273 weeks
6.27825e-4 months
EDT. The plant remained at full power throughout the event.
This event is reportable in accordance with 10 CFR 50.73(a)(2)(iv)(A) as an automatic actuation of the emergency AC electrical power system [EK].
CAUSE OF THE EVENT
The emergency diesel generators started, as designed, when undervoltage was sensed on the 2400 volt safety related buses.
SAFETY SIGNIFICANCE
As described above, all equipment functioned as designed. The safety significance of this event was minimal.
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
No corrective actions were required to be taken at the plant as a result of this event.
