2768 North U.S. 45 Road P.O. Box 430 Metropolis, IL 62960

SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION IN THE AREAS OF INTEGRATED SAFETY ANALYSIS SUMMARY AND MANAGEMENT MEASURES, HONEYWELL METROPOLIS WORKS (COST ACTIVITY CODE 000224/04003392/L-2017-RNW-0002)

Dear Mr. Fulks:

On February 17, 2017, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received Honeywell International, Inc.'s (Honeywell or the licensee) license renewal application (LRA) for Source Materials License SUB-526, as transmitted by letter dated February 8, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML17048A263). By letter dated May 2, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Number ML17111A740), the NRC accepted Honeywell's LRA for detailed review and provided notice of timely renewal status. By letter dated September 20, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Number ML17291A652), Honeywell provided a supplement to its LRA.

The NRC staff has reviewed Honeywell's LRA dated February 8, 2017, as supplemented by letter dated September 20, 2017, and identified that additional information is needed before a final decision can be made on the license renewal request. Specifically, the requests for additional information (RAI) in this letter are in the areas of integrated safety analysis (ISA)summary and management measures.

From December 13 to 14, 2017, the NRC staff conducted a site visit to Honeywell Metropolis Works (MTW) facility, located in Metropolis, Illinois, as part of the LRA review effort. During this visit, the NRC staff clarified the draft RAI (D-RAI) questions in the areas of ISA summary and management measures with Honeywell MTW representatives to ensure that the additional information would meet the needs of the NRC's staff review. Following the site visit, the NRC staff revised the D-RAI questions based on the discussion held with Honeywell MTW representatives to better scope the information needed for the review. On January 24, 2018, the NRC staff sent the revised D-RAI questions pertaining to ISA summary and management measures to Honeywell via email. On January 31, 2018, the NRC staff conducted a conference call with Honeywell representatives for the purpose of clarifying the revised D-RAI questions before formal issuance.

Your response to the RAI in the areas of ISA summary and management measures, as specified in the enclosure, should be provided to the NRC within 60 days from the date of this letter.

Fulks 2 In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 2.390, of the NRC's "Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System component of the NRC's ADAMS.
