  • Denotes those present at the exit intervie Functional or Program Areas Inspected Driving of Indicator Piles On September 18, 1978, the inspector was dispatched to the site to inspect pile driving activities being conducted. The following observations were made during the site visit: Approximately 128 indicator piles have been driven since August 7, 197 The current procedure, which is being utilized during the driving and inspection of these 128 indicator piles, is Thatcher Engineering Corporation procedure 10-3, titled

" Inspections--Pile Driving Procedure Inspection", dated July 7, 1978. This procedure does not include any provisions for the use of jetting or vibration equipmen Indicator pile number SA28 was being driven; and neither jetting nor vibration equipment was used. This observation was made by the inspector at approximately 3:30 p.m. on September 18, 197 There was neither jetting nor vibration equipment located in the immediate work area where indicator piles are being driven.

. The inspector was informed by the C. F. Braun and Company site Quality Control Supervisor that there are eight test piles, located near the South-East corner of the Service Building, which were placed by jetting equipment; however, these eight (8) piles were placed in 1977, prior to IE's and NRR's concern about the site's pile driving activitie The inspector did not observe any indications that jetting or vibration equipment had been used on indicator piles placed since July, 197 No items of noncompliance were identifie . Documentation, Relative to Indicator Piles The> inspector reviewed a C. F. Braun and Company summary log book which contains summary statements concerning the placement of (~ indicator piles driven since August 7,1978. There was no indication in the log book that jetting or vibration equipment had been used during the placement of the indicator pile The inspector observed that eighteen of the Pile Driving Inspection Records (Thatcher Form DR-6) for indicator piles, which have been driven for the Reactor Building, had set-graphs attached to the According to the C.
