October 1, 1996 NOTE T0: File FROM: Ronald 8. Eaton, Senior Project Manager (Original Signed By)

Project Directorate I-2 Division of Reactor Projects I/II

SUBJECT:

TELEPHONE CALL FROM MR. PAUL GUNTER, SEPTEMBER 23, 1996 I was called by Mr. Gunter this morning regarding the following topics:

1. He wanted to know if there was more information regarding the condensate discharge from Oyster Creek. I told him I had no additional information at this time.
2. What was the status of the reactor vessel internals inspections for this refueling outage. He was concerned that by the time he get inspections reports that if there are negative results it is too late for him/NIRS to get involved. I told him that my understanding of the status was that the inspections to date were going well with no new indications of additional cracking.
3. He wanted to know if there were any particular problems the licensee was having in general with the refueling outage. I told him the licensee was approximately 50 hours5.787037e-4 days
0.0139 hours
8.267196e-5 weeks
1.9025e-5 months
behind schedule but I was not aware of any issues that would significantly affect the outage.

I gave him an update of the status of his spent fuel pool 2.206. I told him of the memo to the Commission from Mr. Taylor, " Resolution of Spent Fuel Storage Pool Action Plan Issues," dated July 26, 1996 and that Oyster Creek was not one of the plants that had additional issues to be resolved. I said we would probably issue the Final Director's Decision in a few weeks.
