SUPPLEMENT TO THE FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT -

LIMERICK GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 By this memorandum, copies of a draft NRC report titled "A Preliminary Assessment of BWR Mark II Containment Challenges, Failure Modes, and Potential Improvements in Performance," dated August 4,1989, are being placed in the NRC and local public document rooms. The draft report was referenced in a supplement to NUREG-0974, " Final Environmental Statement related to the operation of Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2." The NRC prepared the supplement to the Final Environmental Statement to present its evaluation of the alternative of facility operation with the installation of further severe accident mitigation design features. As indicated, the draft report is

. preliminary in nature and is currently under review within the NRC.
