Subj. Dete Electrosiceve" Questions 8/8/96 t

This memo is in response to your questions per telecon on August b,1996.

Question 1) Are the compressive stesses in the tube due to the installation of an l electrosleeve"in the longitudinal and hoop directions?

The resulting stresses in the tube due to the installation of an electrosleeeve" are l

compressive at the tube outside surface and are approximately 25 to 30,kai,in both the longitudinal and hoop directions. These stresses exist only in the tube behind the sleeve.

These stresses reduce through the tube thickness and are balanced by tensile stresses in the sleeve.

l Tube buckling cannot occur due to these compressive stresses due to the short tube length l affected and the thickness of the sleeve / tube combinathn.

l For a tube locked into the TSPs, a small tensile loading may develop as a result of these

compressive stresses. The worst case tube c6uld see a 3.2 ksi tensile stress in the unsleeved portion of the tube span.

Question 2) is the 140F plating temperature the result of a exothermic reaction?

No.

l

! The 140F plating fluid temperature is the result of heaters placed in the solution tanks and along the process delivery hose. This 140F fluid temperature at the probe represents a proferred process temperature.

No.

l The 140F plating fluid temperature is the result of heaters placed in the solution tanks and along the process delivery hose. This 140F fluid temperature at the probe represents a preferred process temperature.
