Dear Senator Specter:

I am responding to your letter of May 2, 2002, to Chairman Richard A. Meserve regarding a proposal to build a gas-fired power plant adjacent to the Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Units 1 and 2. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed its review and has concluded that, based on the information available at this time, the proposed plant does not pose a hazard to the safe operation of LGS. I am enclosing a letter to Mr. Thomas DiBello, Chairman of the Limerick Township Board of Supervisors, with additional details about the NRC staffs review. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions.
